Kicking the Blues while Slimming your Waistline

Kicking the Blues while Slimming your Waistline with a Yummy Treat!

Depressed for no reason?

Feeling kind of - - eh?

Need to jump start your brain?

There is an easy, yummy fix, a quick pick-me-up that will slim your waistline!

According to Dr. Michael Roizen:

"In addition to dark chocolate lowering blood pressure, preventing cavities, protecting heart health, and chasing away depression, a double dose (we advocate 1/2 ounce or less twice a day) of dark chocolate (not milk chocolate) revs up power stations called mitochondria in each and every cell in your body. That makes your muscles stronger and increases your endurance.
What is it about chocolate? Chocolate is packed with flavonoids, a plant-based chemical that's a prop at almost everything "anti": antiviral, anti-allergic, anti-platelet, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, and anti-Alzheimer's disease. It's also adept at affecting cell-signaling pathways that regulate the growth, proliferation, and death of cells. Mega-surveys show that folks who ate the most chocolate cut their heart disease risk by 37%, their diabetes risk by 31%, and their risk of stroke by 29%."

Dr. Oz says this about Cocoa:

Next time you need a quick mood boost, try making yourself a cup of hot cocoa, and your day is sure to turn out more delicious. (Click here for more from Dr. Oz)

How can cocoa slim your waistline?

By combining the benefits of Cocoa with coconut! Do you like the Mounds candy bar? If so, this could be for you!
Dr. Oz weighs in on coconuts:
Conventional thought used to consider fats like coconut oil to be unhealthy and contribute to heart disease. We now know that this isn't true. In fact, coconut oil is actually a heart-healthy food that can keep your body running smoother in a few different ways...
Coconut fats have special fats called medium chain triglycerides (MCTs). It has been shown that breaking down these types of healthy fats in the liver leads to efficient burning of energy. One 2009 study found that women who consumed 30 milliliters (about 2 tablespoons) of coconut oil daily for 12 weeks not only did not gain more weight, but actually had lowered amounts of abdominal fat, a type of fat that is difficult to lose, and contributes to more heart problems.  Dr. Drew from Dr. Drew on Call:

In his own words, on the Queen Latifah show, "Is not someone who tries every holistic remedy to hit the news." However, adding a couple of teaspoons of coconut oil to his coffee in the morning has done as it claims: Wakes up his brain and has taken inches off his waistline.

The Yummy Solution

Hardy Hot Cocoa

1 cup skim milk
2 teaspoons Starbucks Hot Cocoa*
2 teaspoons coconut oil (unrefined if you want the taste of coconut)

Directions:

Heat milk, add cocoa and coconut oil in a blender. Mix on medium speed for 20-30 seconds until frothy.

It tastes a bit like eating a mounds candy bar!

* You can substitute any hot cocoa mix as long as it contains cocoa instead of coco. You need the real stuff: Cocoa is what you are looking for.

* * Avoid Swiss Miss brands and the like - they have high fructose corn syrup and will add pounds instead of taking them away.
