Attacks on Our Family Line

VIDEO: Generational Curses

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished to all good works. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

God's ways are always the same. Looking at the New and Old Testament is necessary to fully understand what our Lord expects of us. Some Christians today think generational curses are nonexistent, and yet they cannot explain why the same thing that happened to their parents or grandparents shows up in their life and the lives of their family members. It may be a sickness, attitude, or a sin that we have a hard time avoiding. When we see a pattern of behavior in our parents, grandparents, or siblings, there is a chance that a generational curse from our ancestors is active.

Our Guide to the Secret Place

VIDEO: Our Guide to the Secret Place

In order to enter the Secret Place, we need a Guide. The Holy Spirit asked me to provide an introduction for Him so that He could move into your life in greater measure. He sent a dream a few years back: It was the first dream the Holy Spirit ever interpreted before I even knew it was a gift He gives to people. This dream shows us not only how to get to the Secret Place, but also what role the Holy Spirit plays in that trip.

Secret Place Dream

I walked into an Indian encampment,  comprised of teepees in varied states of disrepair. Many other people left the encampment looking for provision.  I approached a minister I was learning from (dark-haired man) and asked if I could go out with him. He allowed me to follow him and picked up a couple of others on the way out.

Finding and Closing Spiritual Gates

Closing Gates Meeting with Prayer
He that dwells in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. (Psalms 91:1)
The opening line to one of the most power-packed prayers in the entire Bible begins by speaking about the Secret Place of God.This is a destination in the spiritual realm where you can be hidden in a private fellowship with God. We are a spirit being in a physical body with a soul (mind, will, and emotions). We can and should connect with our Father, who is a Spirit, in Heaven. The Word also tells us that the Lord is the one who opens the gate (door, portal)  and leads us into these encounters:
I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. (John 10:9)
According to the words of our Lord, there is going in and coming out of the Secret Place through Him. This is the right way to enter into the spirit realm. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of the Lord (2 Corinthians 3:17) and He should always be there if we are moving about in the spirit. If we access the realm of the spirit without Him, we may have an open door through which  the enemy can  come in and attack us.

The Key to Meditation & the Secret Place

The Key (meeting)

Basics of Meditation

Meditation means to engage in contemplation or reflection. It is letting go of all the things in this physical world and focusing on something in your mind; your imagination. The Bible tells us that our thoughts are important. Scripture instructs us in what we should be meditating on:
“I will meditate also on all Your work, and talk of Your doings.” (Psalms 77:12 AKJV)
“Meditate on these things; give yourself wholly to them; that your profiting may appear to all.” (1 Timothy 4:14 AKJV)
Paul instructs Timothy to meditate and think on the gifts that had been given to him by the Holy Spirit. When we meditate on the things of God it honors Him. This allows Him to reveal more about those things to us.

The Message of 313

[God’s voice may be heard] if there is for the hearer a messenger or an angel, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to show to man what is right for him [how to be upright and in right standing with God]... (Job 33:23 AMPC)

Interpretation is one of the gifts from the Holy Spirit. It is like a word of wisdom or knowledge. Often this gift is used for dreams, as with Joseph and Daniel, but it can be applied to numbers when they come in a miraculous way.

When I renewed my relationship with God, many years ago, He spoke audibly to me and brought an instant, miraculous healing. My husband's response was, “Good for you, Honey, mind over matter.”

Concerned that he would grieve the Holy Spirit, I began praying for him each night, asking God to speak to Him so that Tony would not miss what He was going to do in my life. After two months, in September of 2001, my husband received the same numbers on his food receipts three days within the same week. Tony, as an Engineer, knew that this was a mathematical impossibility, much like being struck by lightning nine times. Because the cycle of numbers changes each day, it may be many years before a person might receive the same numbers twice. The number Tony received was 313. Here is what the actual numbers mean according to God’s word:

Is this the Holy Spirit?

One day I received a disturbing message from a student at the CoH Academy. She said, “I asked the Holy Spirit if everything was going to go my way in an earthly court case, and He said that I would be victorious. I even tested it by asking if Jesus the Messiah came in the flesh and the spirit agreed. But I lost! How can this happen?”

During my prayer time, I asked the Holy Spirit what happened: “You are never wrong, so it wasn’t you who spoke to her. Was there something wrong with the way the spirit was tested? Is there a way to get around the testing?”

He replied, “I wasn’t speaking to her. The enemy wasn’t speaking to her. It was her own mind. She is too focused on the problem. She is a young Christian; her soul is still dominating her spirit. She has placed this problem above God; it is an idol. Her own mind is in control of it.”

Leviathan

You crushed the heads of Leviathan; You gave him as food for the creatures of the wilderness. You split open springs and brooks; You dried up ever-flowing streams.
(Psalms 74:14-15 ESV)

This is a psalm recounting how God delivered His people from Egypt after they cried out for deliverance. The chronological order of events helps us to identify the armies of Egypt as Leviathan because the next item describes the time after Pharoah’s defeat when God brought water from the rocks in the wilderness.

Abba is Waiting

VIDEO: Abba is Waiting Meeting

When things go wrong in my life, I immediately seek the Lord to see if it is a trial or a test, or if I have gone wrong somewhere and left myself open to an attack from the enemy. This is what the Bible tells us to do:

In You, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in Your righteousness. (Psalm 31:1 AKJV)

The Hebrew word chacah (khä·säw)  is translated as “put my trust,” but according to “Strong’s Concordance” it means to trust, put hope upon, and seek refuge. The Lord wants us to run to Him when things go wrong in order to be delivered from what is attacking us. It shouldn’t matter if it is the flu that is going around, an accident, or something bigger. We can seek Jesus and ask why it is happening.

Removing Blockages to the Secret Place

VIDEO: Removing Blockages to the Secret Place

...in the secret of His tabernacle shall He hide me; He shall set me up on a rock. (Psalm 27:5 AKJV)

The word “tabernacle” means tent. The Secret Place is called the secret tent of God. This is a psalm (song) of David who had a big destiny with God. A prophet anointed him and declared that he would be the next king of Israel despite the fact that his own father thought so little of him that he wasn’t even called from the field to be tested: the prophet had to ask Jessie if he had any other sons! (1 Samuel 16:11) David was able to walk into his destiny with God because he knew how to abide in the Secret Place. It is God’s great desire to have all His children visit Him there.

How to Find and Remove Soul Ties

VIDEO: Bad Soul Ties

Soul ties are bridges in the spirit realm that connect to our mind, will, and emotions. The emotions are a key point of contact: Almost any powerful emotional and passionate encounter with other people can form or forge soul ties. Traumas like fights, arguments, strife, accidents, fires, earthquakes, sickness, wars, death, etc. have the potential to establish a negative spiritual influence in our lives. There are good ties, as we discussed in Benefits of Soul ties. There are also ungodly ties that give the enemy access to us.

Intercourse

One of the most common and strongest soul ties God warned us about is in the first Book of the Bible:

Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall join to his wife: and they shall be one flesh. (Genesis 2:24 AKJV)

Through intercourse, two people become one. A bridge is established in the spirit so that their flesh can become more alike. This is confirmed in the New Testament:

Benefits of Soul Ties

VIDEO: Good Soul Ties

The topic of soul ties can be very difficult to understand unless you are aware of two basic principles:

  1. The Rightful Order of Creation
  2. We are like God

Let’s establish a basis of understanding for these things first.

1. Rightful Order

There are two realms: a physical realm and a spiritual realm. We have a tendency to put more faith and confidence in what we can feel, touch, and see in our physical existence. The more apparent and substantial something is, the more we trust in it.

Spiritual Traps Through Technology

VIDEO: Spiritual Influences

Words are powerful. If we entertain gossip with others, a spiritual tie can go down to the “inmost part” or our soul. We don’t have to be physically present with that person. We can partake of gossip through written words or videos, and still find ourselves under attack. When we like, share, or even watch a video on social media sites e.g., YouTube, we are supporting these things. As a Christian, we should consider what we are supporting. What endeavors are you lending your voice to? What spirits are you giving a place to by agreeing (liking, sharing or listening to), as you watch videos?

You may be thinking about films with sex, violence, or witchcraft in them. It is true that we should guard our heart against these and try to avoid supporting them in any way, but I was sent a “free” one hour version of a video about religious leaders on YouTube and was very disturbed by what I saw. While watching this video, a deep fog settled around my head. I knew the video was wrong, but I couldn’t put two thoughts together to understand why. It was this mistake that made us realize we have to be careful and discern what we are listening to.

The evidence presented was short clips taken out of context with a lot of accusations and many people saying how great the full video was. The only thing I could pinpoint was that it was nothing more than an hour-long teaser for the paid version. This is the same tactic used in the Garden of Eden. Eve had added to what God said and Satan used that:

Getting Grace & Mercy for Our Children

VIDEO: Grace and Mercy for our Children

Children are nearest and dearest to the hearts and minds of their parents. In a series of visions, the Lord has revealed to us what we can expect when we pray for our children, especially as we place them before the Throne of Grace. This revelation can be applied to others outside our family as well. It was the prayers and determination of one mother that helped bring this revelation to light.

At our Tea and Coffee meeting, Jalo asked why things were getting worse for her son, Quin, when he was at the Throne of Grace. I gave this example of a natural application:

You have a young child who is prone to wandering. There is a highway on a hill nearby. You know that your child could be killed if they wander onto that road. You know the danger, but your child does not. In an attempt to keep your child from dying, you place barbed wire and other painful obstacles between your child and the road. The closer your child gets to the road, the more painful the obstacles. Some determined children will push through painful obstacles, but it is the grace and mercy of God that keeps putting more painful things between eternal death and His children.

Highest Level in the Courts of Heaven

Highest Level in the CoH

My family took a few days off during the celebration of our Independence Day, the 4th of July. Although I was gone from the ministry, God brought a major revelation about operating in the Courts of Heaven. Here is how the Lord made this revelation perfectly clear to me:

It was late when we arrived at Grandma’s cabin: the family was exhausted. The smell of cat urine came forcibly to my senses in two different spots, one downstairs and one upstairs. The Holy Spirit had used this type of discernment before, so I knew it meant demons were present.

What is a Curse?

VIDEO: Can Christians Have a Curse &
How to Take Communion

And to Adam He said, Because you have listened and given heed to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it, the ground is under a curse because of you; in sorrow and toil shall you eat [of the fruits] of it all the days of your life. (Genesis 3:17 AMPC)
And I will bless those who bless you [who confer prosperity or happiness upon you] and curse him who curses or uses insolent language toward you... (Genesis 12:3)

To remove attacks, we must identify them and know why they are allowed in our lives. A curse is a legal right for the enemy to afflict us in some way. The first mention of a curse in the Bible is when God put a curse upon the ground after Adam and Eve ate of the tree of knowledge (Genesis 3:17). God also told Abraham that He would curse those who dishonored him (Genesis 12:3).

Seeing God Face to Face - 3rd Step of the Aaronic Blessing

Seeing God Face to Face - Step 3 Video

“And the LORD spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend… (Exodus 33:11)

Preparing for Intercession

VIDEO: Preparing for Intercession

When intercession is done for family members or friends, you will need to prepare for what is to come. Unlike interceding for strangers, when family or friends are involved we remain part of the process that is initiated with our prayer. Even if we are not leading the prayer, there will be an important part for us to play in order to receive fruit (good results) from a prayer of intercession.

On occasion, Agape Christian Fellowship has seen the hearts of kids instantly open up after their parents remove the charges from the enemy giving generational curses a place. Unfortunately, this is rare. People have free will so their hearts must be ready to turn to God. More often than not, change takes time: it is a journey, not a magic pill.

If God has placed others on your heart, you need to be prepared to be used by God.

Seeing God Face to Face - 1st Step

Seeing God Face to Face - 1st Step

Holy Imagination & the Secret Place

VIDEO: Holy Imagination & the Secret Place

During our Tea & Coffee meeting, the topic came up: Should we be using our imagination, envisioning the Secret Place, Throne Room, Jesus, or Heaven to visit with the Lord by picturing the Secret Place, Throne Room, Jesus, or Heaven?

We had invited the Holy Spirit to lead the meeting, and I was shocked by what He revealed.

Teachings about using our “holy imagination” to enter Heaven are becoming prevalent in the Church. What is “holy imagination?” The word “holy” means separate, set apart, sanctified. Can our imagination be holy?

Resting in God to Enter the Secret Place

VIDEO: Resting in God

Rest seems to be an important topic in the New Testament: it is mentioned more than 75 times. I have found resting in God to be one of the most challenging parts of my Christian walk, but is crucial if we are to visit the Lord face to face in the Secret Place. I’m probably not alone in these difficulties because they are mentioned in the Bible:
“Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest...” (Hebrews 4:11 AKJV)
“Resting in God” sounds like it should be easy to do. Just sit back and relax. Yet here in Hebrews, it seems that it may be a challenge to do. Laboring to enter rest sounds like an oxymoron: the two things seem to contradict each other. This struggle begs us to ask:
  • What is resting in God?
  • What are the benefits of resting?
  • What can keep us from resting?

Higher Levels in the Courts

The Throne of Grace is a wonderful place to be. The attacks of the enemy are eased so that we can grow and learn from God. As you begin to grow in the knowledge of the Courts you may begin to wonder:
  • Are there levels to the Courts of Heaven?
  • What do we need to do to operate in the Courts with more authority?

Receiving MORE from the Courts

Receiving More Video

Each new revelation from God seems to be so effective as it begins, then it begins to degrade over time. Why is this? God is always the same, so why do things change?

We must find the answers to these questions now because the revelation of the Courts of Heaven is in danger of becoming ineffective; an "old wineskin." To understand why, we need to know what the Bible says about old wineskin. If you have not been immersed in the Christian culture, this term may be unfamiliar to you. What does it mean to be an “old wineskin?” Three out of the four accounts in the Bible record our Lord talking about this, so it must be important:

Trouble Receiving Grace & Mercy

VIDEO: Trouble with Grace

After the Lord revealed how to appropriate the fullness of grace and mercy that His sacrifice provided, we saw immediate results as people began to be set free of everything from mental, emotional, and physical healing to demonic oppression they didn’t know was there until it was lifted. We also received messages from people who were still under a heavy attack from the enemy.

We sought the Lord as to why this was happening. Wasn’t His grace for everyone? The most common reasons for remaining under attack were:

  1. Not being eligible for the Throne of Grace.
  2. Not confessing sin.
  3. Not renouncing binding agreements with the enemy.
  4. Not learning God’s ways.
  5. Not understanding grace and mercy.

I want to assure you that receiving prayer for grace and mercy really does work! This is what happened when someone, let’s call her Agnes, was brought into the Courts right after our meeting about grace and mercy:

Interceding for Others

VIDEO: Interceding for Others

Our Lord has revealed how to appropriate the fullness of His grace and mercy for ourselves by residing at the Throne of Grace. Can we intercede for the ones we love so that they are free from the attacks of the enemy? Let’s look at what the Bible tells us.

According to chapter 9 in the Book of Daniel, as we have discussed, he intercedes for his people and his nation. He did so with a grieved and sorrowful heart, confessing that God had rightfully punished his people and his nation.  In a broad, general way, he acknowledged the following:

  • The sins being committed
  • The ancestors’ sins
  • The lack of repentance for the sins
  • The lack of knowing God’s ways

Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. (James 5:16 ESV)

Receiving Grace and Mercy in the Courts of Heaven

VIDEO: Receiving Grace and Mercy

The revelation of grace and mercy came as we prepared for the Feast of Passover; it would be the last one before the glory of God was revealed. He suffered and died for this purpose, and I realized that He was showing us how to use the gift of grace and mercy as the yearly celebration neared. We should seek grace from the Lord while we learn about the Courts of Heaven.

We have learned how to appropriate the blood of Jesus in the Courts.

... for the accuser of our brethren, he who keeps bringing before our God charges against them day and night, has been cast out! And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony and they loved not their lives unto the death.... (Revelation 12:10-11 ESV)

Passover: Foreshadow of the Two Witnesses & the Rapture

Passover: Rapture Foreshadow

If you have been to an Easter Sunday service, the chances are you have heard about the correlation between Christ and the Passover Lamb when God’s people fled Egypt. As I spoke with the Lord about the Passover message for this year, He pointed out that it was also a foreshadow of what is to come. There many parts of Passover that are a direct foreshadow of one aspect of the Tribulation.
  1. The Setting
  2. The Job
  3. The Climax
  4. The Payment
  5. The Reward
  6. The Rapture
These six things were echoed in the life of Jesus and the life of the two that will come to proclaim His return and the rapture itself.

Why God Speaks: Chosen or Called

Why God Speaks Video

Why does God talk to some people more than He does to others? How does God choose to whom He speaks? It is undeniable; God does speak and move more in the lives of some “chosen” people.

For many are called (invited, summoned), but few are chosen. (Matthew 22:14 AMP)

One thing about this passage always troubled me. The Greek word used in this scripture for “many” is polys. The Greek word for “all” is pas, which is not used here. Why not? Does this mean that there are some who are never called by God? Not at all! The word polys can also be used to mean much or most. Simply put, it should read: Almost everyone is called, but the remaining few are chosen.

Why God is Silent

Why God is Silent video

A popular 1980s Garth Brooks’ song says:

“Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers
Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs
That just because he doesn't answer doesn't mean he don't care
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers.”

Though this is not a “Church” song, the lyrics really speak to a topic that affects many Christians. When we pray, God doesn’t seem to answer. When the situation is important to our hearts, this silence may compromise our relationship with our Heavenly Father and how we perceive Him. In order to hear from God, it helps to know why God is sometimes silent. If we don’t understand this, bitterness and disbelief may creep into our hearts.

Removing Wrong Answers

Removing Wrong Answers
In order to hear from God, we need to prepare our hearts for what He may say to us. If we have misconception about how and why God speaks, this may hinder us from receiving from Him.

For years my husband persisted in asking me, “Why won’t God just say ‘hi’ to everyone on the planet? You say that He is love, and that people go to Hell for not believing in Him. It seems like if He really loved us that much, He would at least say ‘hi,’ then we would know that He is real.”

How do we Find Abba?

VIDEO: Finding Abba

Our Lord shows us three ways to address God in the Book of Luke, as Father, Friend, and Judge. When the disciples ask how to pray, He instructs them with the first step in our relationship with God:

“...Our Father who is in Heaven…” (Luke 11:2 AMPC)

The most important place to approach God is as Father. We must see Him as our kind, compassionate, loving Father. This can be quite challenging if we don’t have that kind of dad here on the Earth.

Rose Ceremony in the Secret Place

Rose Ceremony Meeting

The Holy Spirit has been encouraging me to worship God in a unique way. Worship music fills the room as I crochet. My hands are busy with the simple task while my heart and mind worship the Lord.  Last week, when I worshipped this way, I had one of the most unique encounters with Jesus when he strengthened my spiritual body (CLICK HERE to read about that).

Meditation & Journaling

Meditation & Journaling Meeting

This is a Moses generation. God wants to bring all His children to “The Secret Place” where He can speak to them face-to-face. He did this with Moses, and it was His original intent to have all of Israel visit Him this way. It can be seen in the recorded psalm of Moses:
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty… (Psalms 91:1)

A Strengthened Spirit in the Secret Place

Strength in the Secret Place (Q & A Meeting)

Even though the week wasn’t over, it had been a hard one. Two days before teaching about discernment, the Lord was kind enough to bring a correction that will help many avoid the traps of the enemy when receiving discernment from the Holy Spirit. I had been under attack from the enemy for a while and couldn’t find the cause.  At one point I literally felt blows to my spirit man. When the situation was resolved, I felt lighter, surrounded by a peace that I didn’t know was diminished until the fullness of it returned. When I look back now, I can see the warning and information given by the Lord,  all applied to this correction… as they say, “Hindsight is twenty-twenty.”

That afternoon, I followed the gentle nudges of the Holy Spirit: I set aside the pile of work waiting for me and put on some worship music while I was working on crocheting the afghan for my husband. The night before I had discovered some more yarn for the project - if I took out a few rows, this yarn would really make a much better looking finished project.

Conversations with God 5

Did you know that our thoughts travel as neural pulses in our brain at a speed of around 275 mph? No wonder it can be difficult to ‘catch’ what God is saying to us because He speaks to us through our thoughts. Journaling helps us to slow down our thoughts so we can connect with our motor skills and write them down. From this we can learn to slow our thinking down and begin to hear God’s responses to our conversations with Him.

Cursed Objects

VIDEO: Cursed Items

And God did unusual and extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul, so that handkerchiefs or towels or aprons which had touched his skin were carried away and put upon the sick, and their diseases left them and the evil spirits came out of them. (Acts 19:11-12 AMPC)

Neither shall you bring an abomination into your house, lest you be a cursed thing like it: but you shall utterly detest it, and you shall utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing. (Deuteronomy 7:26 AKJV)

Paul's handkerchief carried the anointing of God; His very presence upon it. Other objects carried evil, or a curse upon them. We have discovered that certain physical objects can hinder us from:

  •     Receiving revelation from God
  •     Concentrating on the things of God
  •     Receiving healing

The Trap in Discerning Spirits

Video: Discerning Good and Evil

And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and on his heads seven diadems. His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and cast them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she bore her child he might devour it  (Revelation 12:3-4 ESV)
As for the mystery of the seven stars that you saw in my right hand, and the seven golden lampstands, the seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches. (Revelation 1:20 ESV)
And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. (Revelation 12:9 ESV)

In the book of Revelation, John shows us that the “stars” are angels. In chapter twelve, he is giving a recap of Israel, from the birth of God’s people, to the end of them. Israel gave birth to Jesus which stirred things up. Satan is referred to as “the great dragon” in verse nine of that chapter. A tail represents “tales” or stories that are not true. Satan convinced one-third of all the angels to rebel against God. Many of these fallen angels are referred to as “gods” by those who do not know the true God.

The world is divided on the topic of modern-day witchcraft and curses. In some countries, the spirit realm, especially the demonic, is considered as real as our world. In other countries, it is looked at as superstition. In America, many believe that science has disproved many of these things. Recently, God has made it very clear that the things in His word, the Bible, still apply today, maybe even more so.

For when for the time you ought to be teachers, you have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For everyone that uses milk is unskillful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. (Hebrews 5:12-13 AKJV)

The basic biblical principles are “oracles” of God, meaning they are inspired teachings from God. Paul is speaking about the foundational teachings concerning Jesus and who God is. This is the “milk” we need to grow into mature Christians. Every Christian becomes a citizen of Heaven when they take Jesus as their Lord. We should be learning about our new kingdom and what our Lord expects of us. Until we learn about Jesus and God through the Bible, we are a “babe.” If we continue reading this chapter in Hebrews, we see that we should be applying what we learn as we read the Word of God.

But strong meat belongs to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. (Hebrews 5:14 AKJV)

There are a few words in this scripture that will help us rightly apply it if we look at the original words in Greek:

  •     by reason of: Strong's G1223 dia (dee-ah') - by the means of
  •     senses: Strong's G145 aisthÄ“tÄ“rion (ah-sthay-tay'-ree-on) - faculty of the mind for perceiving, understanding, judging
  •     discern: Strong's G1253 diakrisis (dee-ak'-ree-sis) - a distinguishing, discerning, judging

“By reason of” means how we are going to accomplish something. Because this passage in Hebrews begins by reminding the reader to pay attention to the basic and first lessons about God (oracles), the definition for senses should be using our mind, our intellect, our understanding. We should be “exercising” or vigorously using our minds to judge what we perceive according to what the Word of God says.

As we learn, we should look at the world around us, including messages from spiritual leaders, to judge whether they are good or evil. Evil is a strong word. It really means that which is opposed to God or not of God. When we are learning the basic principle of our new kingdom, we should look at teachers, pastors, prophets, evangelists, apostles and everything in the world around us to see whether or not it lines up with the Word of God. This is the first and basic level of discernment that all Christians should be exercising.

Discerning of Spirits

But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.... to another discerning of spirits… (1 Corinthians 12:7,10 KJV)

The Holy Spirit brings gifts to help us see what spirit is moving even when actions may seem benign or harmless. He can give us a warning when there is another spirit at work. The Greek word diakrisis is translated as discerning, is the same word used in describing the application of the Word of God, but now it is the Holy Spirit bringing spiritual perception to us apart from logic.

The Holy Spirit would never contradict the Word of God. If it is the Holy Spirit this gift, what you receive should always line up with the Word of God. Like all of the gifts of the Spirit, discernment should grow as we mature in the ways of God by reading and applying the Word.
And let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts [deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds, in that peaceful state] to which as [members of Christ’s] one body you were also called [to live]. And be thankful (appreciative), [giving praise to God always]. (Colossians 3:15 AMPC)

Peace or the lack of peace is the primary discernment all Christians should have. The lack of peace is referred to as a “check in our spirit” by many mature believers. The gift of discernment can appear as sensations on our bodies. Where and how the sensation appears will speak to what the Holy Spirit is saying. We should not look for or depend upon sensations on our bodies. This can lead us down the wrong path.

Cocoon of Light

Satan is called “the deceiver.” He wants to be a god to us. When we receive from the spirit realm, it must always align with the Word of God because His enemy may try to trick us by imitating how we usually receive the Holy Spirit.

Some claim to receive “discernment” that is so strong that it is distracting and almost debilitating. They suggest praying to wrap a “cocoon of light” around yourself to lessen the physical sensations. This directly contradicts the Word of God.

Nowhere in the Bible does God use a “cocoon.” The Holy Spirit is God. If the sensations you are receiving are from God, wouldn’t He know how strong to make them? Praying a prayer to mitigate discernment is trying to quiet the voice of God. You should run quickly away from anyone who:

  •     Has had to pray for a shield of a cocoon of light
    •     They are hearing from a spirit that is not from God!
  •     Wants to “discern” what is good by what they feel instead of standing on what the Word of God says.

Talking to other Christians, especially mature ones, about what we are receiving from the Holy Spirit can help confirm that we are hearing from God. However, anytime someone wants others to bring things to them to “discern” if it is good or not, well, that leads to control and pride; two spirits that are not from God.

At one point in a past ministry, I made a big mistake because I listened to those under the influence of these spirits. They wanted to “discern” the messages I was giving. They received negative reactions to:

  •     Scripture
    •     Claiming it was a wrong version of the Bible
  •     Sentences
    •     Wanting to change words here and there

The processes of writing became constricting. It felt as if I was being squeezed, hemmed in on every side. It removed the peace of the Lord and I felt agitated. I rejected their assistance and within a year they left the ministry.

We must be careful about whom we receive discernment from and who we receive it. The warning signs that their “discernment” wasn’t from God were the following:

  •     There was absolutely no scriptural backing for the “discernment” they were giving.
    •     It wasn’t giving glory to God, it was serving to give power to them
    •     They contradicted teachings from the Word, wanting to “discern” from their feeling what was good.
  •     Their discernment would give them complete control over what the leader of the church would say and do.
  •   They had brought the teaching about the cocoon of light and needed it when they received discernment.

Once I rejected their “discernment,” I began to realize that I had gone from trusting in the Lord to relying on them. Anytime someone wants us to trust run to them to use their gifts, they will begin to take God’s place in our lives. If you have fallen into this trap as I had, it is easy to get free.

  1.     Confess that you trusted other people instead of trusting God.
  2.     Confess that you came into agreement with a spirit that was not from God through listening to others.
  3.     Ask for the blood of Jesus to blot out these sins.
  4.     Sever all soul ties to the people who brought you wrong discernment.

Strong Discernment

In the Book of Acts, we find the account of Peter in prison. When an angel set him free, Peter went to Mary’s house, where his friends were gathered. At that time, the spirit realm and angelic visitations were so frequent that the woman who answered the door thought it was Peter’s angel instead of Peter himself. The Outpouring is on the horizon where signs, wonders, and miracles will be as present in the world as they were in the time of the Book of Acts. Are you ready to discern good from evil?

This gift works in more ways than I can describe here. The Holy Spirit often shows me when someone is speaking with Him or without Him, guiding their sermons and messages. Word by word. I would actually feel when they were on target or off on their own, and then when they were back again.

My Counselor, the Holy Spirit, would also occasionally reveal spirits in people or upon them. A few of the spiritual characteristics He used with me are:

  •     Twisted teeth in someone’s mouth, all yellow and jagged.
  •     A head that looks too big with a pointy-tooth smile.
  •     A smile that looks too big, like a reflection in a funhouse mirror.
  •     An ammonia scent like cat urine, which is a likely indicator of demonic activity.
We must use the discernment that the Holy Spirit gives us, according to God and His ways. There is a trap the enemy lays as we attempt to discern which spirit may be influencing others. Not only will walking into this trap affect you and the authority you wield, but it could also hurt the person being afflicted by a demonic spirit. When discernment of spirits acting through people is handled incorrectly, it may leave you open to attacks of the enemy. I found this out the hard way as I began writing this article.

Revealing the Enemy’s Trap

I was so excited to discover all the ways the Holy Spirit was bringing discernment about spirits upon others – especially leaders in the Church. In exercising this gift, I would consult with other Christians whom I thought were proficient in using this gift. I would ask what type of spirit was upon someone to see if they were seeing the same thing. This sounds innocent, right?

For fear of bringing an attack upon herself, one of our team members commented, she was holding her tongue about what she was discerning on a certain leader of a ministry. She quoted the verse, “Judge not lest ye be judged.” (Matthew 7:1 KJV) That night after midnight, as I layed in bed so very tired, I asked the Lord if this person was right.

Were we leaving ourselves open to attacks by stating the discernment the Holy Spirit brought us about a person? Surely, He brings information so we can warn others? How could it possibly be wrong to declare what He was revealing to us?

I had always applied “judge not” to judging people for the mistakes of their past or even small mistakes they were currently making. None of us are perfect, not a pastor, prophet, evangelist, or apostle. Should I never judge someone, even when the Holy Spirit brings discernment?

The small, quiet voice of the Holy Spirit that sounds like my own thoughts said, “You are coming into agreement with the enemy’s right to be in that person’s life, which will increase that right.” Receiving discernment about which spirit is operating through someone is right; it is a gift of the Spirit, but how we are handling it needs work. God’s Spirit also brought the right scriptures that apply to this:

“Love your neighbor as yourself…” (Luke 10:27 AKJV)
Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace to the hearers. (Ephesians 4:29 KJV)

If we are operating in the highest level of love, we will not speak outside of love. We will edify and build up people. Speaking in agreement with a demonic spirit having a place in a person's life is judging the battle as already lost. We can heed what the Holy Spirit is doing, but we need to build up rather than declare the outcome for the demonic spirit.

If you are called to be a prophet, sometimes God will tell you to say something outside of an encouraging word, but then you are the mouthpiece of God. Unless the Holy Spirit is heavy upon us and tells us to bring a correction, we should not come into agreement with the enemy. This is the trap of the enemy. When we accuse our brothers, even rightly so, it allows the enemy to place charges upon us for coming out of our “love” walk and disobeying the prime directive of our Lord: to love one another!

This information was very hard to accept. However, I had known for many days that I was out of alignment with God because my health had been under assault. Not only was I battling a cold, but I was exhausted. My thoughts were muddled. In prayer, the Lord said I needed to watch my words. I wasn’t sure what He was talking about, but as I lay there, the Holy Spirit said this was the issue.

The thought of leading people in the wrong direction was a heavy burden on my heart. “If this is really how we need to handle this gift, I need some proof. I am teaching people about discernment in two days!” I asked the Lord at 2 AM, “Let me be healed and free of this sickness if we really need to be this careful about how we handle discernment.”

For the last few days, I had averaged about six hours of sleep a night, but suddenly, my nose was clear and super dry. I had a burst of energy. I felt like I could get up and start my day with zero sleep. The low energy had vanished. I had been experiencing mild vertigo when I went from lying down to a standing position hurriedly. However, now I jumped up out of bed with no dizziness at all!

We should see discernment as something God wants us to be aware of in the spiritual realm. It’s not about flesh and blood. So, if I discern something on a book, a picture, or someone’s face, it’s all being made aware that there’s something spiritual on them. If we move into judging, then that’s where sin can come in. We discern to know if we should pray, walk away, or speak to them about it. All must involve the Holy Spirit.

This doesn’t mean we can’t give warnings or speak about what we are perceiving. During my time with the Lord, I asked how to handle what was revealed. He said to choose our words carefully.

What not to say:

  •     “That person has a demon.”
  •     “That person is operating through _____ spirit.”

What is okay to say:

  •     “Be cautious when listening to that person.”
  •     “Ask the Holy Spirit to give you discernment about that person.”
  •     “The Lord may be freeing that person from ___ spirit”

We should always back the power of our Lord to free someone from a spirit and never declare a spirits right to a person.

Taking Action When a Spirit is Revealed

There are three ways to respond when we receive this discernment:

  •     Pray
  •     Walk Away
  •     Say Something to the person

The Lord brought this scripture to support these actions:

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints… (Ephesians 6:18 KJV)

When we discern that a spirit is influencing a brother or sister, pray for them. Ask God to grant them wisdom about what spirit is speaking to them. DO NOT confess in the prayer that a spirit is speaking through them. Just ask God to grant them wisdom about what spirit may be speaking to them.

We should also be cautious about listening to that person, knowing that there may be another spirit at work. If it is a ministry, pray and ask God if you should keep supporting that ministry in any way (either financially or by volunteering) or if you should walk away. The Holy Spirit is our guide: He knows if that person or ministry will be turning from their path quickly.

If you feel the Holy Spirit wants you to say something to that person, trust Him for the words. Speak with love, kindness, and understanding. Perhaps in the past, you have accused someone of:

  •     Having a particular spirit.
  •     Operating under a spirit.
  •     A spirit operating through them.

Doing this puts you in agreement with Satan who is the accuser about his influence over that person.

And I heard a loud voice saying in Heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brothers is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. (Revelation 12:10 AKJV)

We don't want to agree with the enemy who is the accuser of God's children. An accusation is an assumption about the reason for a behavior. It is also assuming someone is guilty of an action without proof. It is tempting to complain to our friends or ask others “to pray” for someone, all the while assuming we know their motive or declaring they are working apart from God. Praying for others is good. Ask God to grant them wisdom. It is declaring motives and/or making assumptions that may open the door for us to be attacked. We should remember what the Bible tells us to do:

Be gentle and forbearing with one another and, if one has a difference (a grievance or complaint) against another, readily pardoning each other; even as the Lord has [freely] forgiven you, so must you also [forgive]. (Colossians 3:13 AMPC)

I therefore, the prisoner for the Lord, appeal to and beg you to walk (lead a life) worthy of the [divine] calling to which you have been called [with behavior that is a credit to the summons to God’s service, Living as becomes you] with complete lowliness of mind (humility) and meekness (unselfishness, gentleness, mildness), with patience, bearing with one another and making allowances because you love one another. Be eager and strive earnestly to guard and keep the harmony and oneness of [and produced by] the Spirit in the binding power of peace. (Ephesians 4:1-4 AMPC)

When we have a complaint about someone, we should give them grace, and underserved understanding. We should bring grievous complaints to the person if the Holy Spirit urges it. It may be an opportunity for both parties to grow in the fruit of the Spirit. When we complain to others, we are spreading the grievance, not pardoning it. If your words have been negative about others, especially where things of the spirit realm are concerned or if you have listened to others who are accusing Christians in some way, you should do the following:

  1.     Confess that you have spoken wrongly and sided with the accuser of the brethren.
  2.     Renounce all negative words you have said that are not according to God’s Word.
  3.     Ask for the blood of Jesus to blot them out of all records in Heaven and Earth.

Believers' Boot Camp series

Believers' Boot Camp - Volume One
Believers' Boot Camp: Volume Two

Many people think of boot camp as a place you train for combat. Any veteran will tell you that basic training is about three things:

  • Knowing what weapons are available
  • Learning how to use those weapons
  • Receiving orders and following them
Believer’s Boot Camp series is a collection of books which teach us how to hear more clearly from God with the goal to ready ourselves for a face-to-face meeting with our Lord, Jesus. The series reveals the “weapons and tools” God has given us and how to use them, so we can bring God’s kingdom to Earth. Each book in the series focuses on a single topic to clearly define one tool or weapon from our Heavenly Father.

The series uses the Word of God to reveal all that He has given us through Jesus. The Bible is our instruction manual and the Holy Spirit is our guide to understanding it.

Why Doesn't God Speak to Me?

Believers’ Boot Camp, Volume 1

Eager hearts cry out, hoping for a single word to confirm that He hears us. Yet, many times the only sound is silence. Over the years I have heard several reasons why God speaks to some and not to others. One night, as I tossed and turned, I brought each of these reasons before the Lord, stating why each of them did not line up with who I thought He was.

Words rose from my soul, pleading for Him to reveal why He has remained silent when a single word from Him would mean so much to so many. For the next few hours, God used things I learned about years ago and things I had just discovered to show why He talks to some and why He doesn’t, and in demonstrative ways.

In His grace, He also showed me how people could hear more from Him. Basic instructions on how to hear more from God and how to be led by Him are included in this book. Thank you for taking time to consider the answers I received and share with you now.

When we learn to operate in our rightful place as children of the Most High, the enemy will be defeated and we will see the victory we have prayed for.

The death of Jesus freed us from the curse of the law. However, we must declare this freedom just as we must make a declaration for our salvation.

  • Can curses be passed to our children?
  • What are signs of a curse?
  • How do you get rid of one?

Every answer is backed by scripture. Come and find out how easy it is to be free!
