Anytime you present facts in a way that you feel it will help you achieve a goal, this is manipulation and a spirit can become attached and begin manipulating you. It is one of the traits of a Jezebel class of spirits. (Read about Jezebel CLICK HERE)
We often think of manipulation as something pretty or sexy women do to men. Actually, there is so much more to this destructive habit that many Christians have. Manipulating is when you are trying to:
1. Make things look worse to get help (exaggeration)
2. Make things look better to impress someone (boasting)
3. Present things in a way to convince someone that you are right.
These are the three most prevalent forms of manipulation. When you do these things, you are actually saying that you don't trust God to provide for you what you need. If you are walking with Him, His favor should open every door you need to walk through. Jesus explained it this way:
But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. (Matthew 5:34-35)Simply put, the Lord is saying, just let your words be honest and trust the Lord to do the rest.
“Simply let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ Anything more comes from the evil one.” (Matthew 5:36)Manipulation gives a spirit access to your life. This can create a generational curse: if you see your kids doing it, look and see if you are doing it in small ways. You should also not respond to people who are manipulating you, this opens the door for that spirit to come into your life because you are listening to someone who is operating through a spirit that isn’t from God.
This can be a very hard habit to break, but the Holy Spirit is able to help you. Look for Him to give you warning that you are pushing to get your way or manipulating a situation, so you can repent and plead the blood over those actions right away. Your words should be straightforward with no exaggerations or embellishments.
