Pleading the Blood, Binding, & Bloodlines

Video: Binding, Bloodlines, and Pleading the Blood

Is there a right and a wrong way to “plead the blood”? If we do it wrong, can it bring trouble upon us?

The phrase “plead the blood of Jesus” has been around for a long time. For decades, many in the body of Christ have embraced the revelation that this is not “begging” for God to do something but appropriating all that Jesus has done through the shedding of His blood. To understand what “pleading the blood” is, we need to know a bit about Heaven’s organization.

…Shall not the Judge of all the Earth execute judgment and do righteously?
(Genesis 18:25 AMPC

God is a righteous Judge, and a God who feels indignation every day.
(Psalm 7:11 AMPC)

…And to the church (assembly) of the Firstborn who are registered [as citizens] in Heaven, and to the God Who is Judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous (the redeemed in Heaven) who have been made perfect... (Hebrews 12:23 AMPC)

God is the Judge over Heaven and Earth. The word “plead” is a legal term. Instead of guilty or not guilty, you are entering a plea to God, the just and righteous Judge of Heaven and Earth, that the blood of Jesus has paid the price for the sin you are confessing. What effect does the blood of Jesus have?

God is always the same. Israel had to sacrifice a lamb every year for their sins. This allowed them to be in a relationship with God. When Israel refused to turn from sin, even though they kept sacrificing a lamb, bad stuff would happen to them.

The Word of God is clear. Jesus is the Lamb of God. His blood paid the price for all sins for all time. Just like the lamb sacrifice in Israel, through the sacrifice of Jesus, we come into a relationship with God and can receive eternal life. However, we are expected to turn from our sins while we remain on the Earth, just as Israel did.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9 AKJV)

The word “confess” is from the Greek word homologeĊ, which means to see things the way God does. If we see our sin the way He does, we would see it as the vilest thing on the planet. I look at it this way: sin is like a big pile of dog poop; not something we want anywhere near us and definitely want to avoid stepping into. The word “unrighteousness” means “the wrong which deprives another of what is his,” according to Thayer’s Greek-English Lexicon. In plain English, “to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” means to put us in right standing with God, so we can have what is legally ours.

Only by removing sin from our life, and seeing it the way God does, will we be in right standing with the Kingdom of God, so that all His promises can come into our lives. We must look to a couple of verses before this to find out how to obtain this promise.

But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. (1 John 1:7 AKJV)

We should be walking in the light, which means God will reveal things by shedding light upon it or giving us understanding about it. Sin is darkness. So, if God reveals sin in our lives, we must walk away from that and into the light. We can enter our “plea” and “plead” that the blood of Jesus has paid the price to remove that sin from our lives once we turn from it!

  •     God’s people used to sacrifice new animals every year to have their sin removed for that year.
  •     Jesus’ blood only had to be shed once for all sin we can be righteous or in right standing before God.
    •     We no longer have to sacrifice animals for our sins every year

The revelation of “pleading the blood” has allowed many to become free from attacks of the enemy. Once the validity of the blood was seen, God’s children began “pleading the blood” over everything. What could be the harm? Surely if the blood could help, it would. But if it couldn’t, well, at least we tried, right? Nothing could be farther from the truth.

 Misusing the Blood

Now that we know “pleading the blood” is stating the payment of the blood of Jesus for our sin, how should it be used? People have been told to plead the blood over anything and everything, even demons. This shows great ignorance.

And whenever the unclean spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.” (Mark 3:11 ESV)

Demons cannot be redeemed by using the blood. They are aware that Jesus is the Son of God but choose to stay in rebellion against God.
Unless we are paying for a sin that we have turned from, pleading the blood does no good! If we plead the blood without removing the sin or without hearing from the Holy Spirit, then we have attempted to abuse the authority Jesus gave us.

There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor? (James 4:12 ESV)
God as Judge has made a ruling giving the enemy a place. When we plead the blood we are trying to remove that place. If we have not turned from sin, then we are trying to overrule God’s verdicts as the Judge with the blood of His son. If you have taught others to plead the blood without hearing from God or turning from sin, then you have led a rebellion against God!

To remove this sin, you must confess what you have done wrong, seeing it the way God does. You must be willing to take action in agreement with that repentance: stop contributing to ministries who teach this, correct any teaching you have given, remove any wrong teaching in book form, and if you have led others, pray for those you’ve taught to do this. Once you have done these things, you are ready for the blood to blot out your rebellion against God. Simply state, “I plead the blood of Jesus over these sins.”

Bloodlines: Applying the Blood to Items

For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it for you on the altar to make atonement for your souls, for it is the blood that makes atonement by the life. (Leviticus 17:11 ESV)
For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the Lord. The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt. (Exodus 12:12-13 ESV)

The purpose of applying the blood is for the atonement of sins. According to the Passover story, the blood can be applied to a home as a sign to the Destroyer (Satan) to keep a home safe. God, as Judge, gave a judgment against sin, allowing the destroyer to take the life of the firstborn. The blood of a slain lamb would cause Satan to Passover the house and it kept those inside safe. Jesus died and was crucified during Passover. This application on the doorpost was a foreshadowing of what Jesus did for us on the cross.

Unfortunately, many Christians have taken the message of this story literally and applied the blood to:

  •     Neighborhoods
  •     Cities
  •     Countries

This is very presumptuous. Those applying the blood at Passover were God’s people and it kept God’s people safe. They didn’t apply it to all of Egypt or to the city they resided in. They could only do it for themselves, for those who were God’s people. Please consider:

  •     When you apply the blood to geographical areas, you may be trying to prevent God’s judgment against those who are rebelling against Him.
    •     Some people in your city may not acknowledge God as creator or Jesus as Lord, they may even worship Satan!
  •     The blood can only pay for what belongs to the Lord.
    •     We have no authority over things we do not own.

By pleading the blood over more than what is ours, we are abusing the authority given to us by Jesus. We can protect what is ours, no more. Why? Let me explain:

Jeremiah 17 shows that principalities are put into place by God over cities and areas according to the hearts of the men in that area. If the hearts of the majority of men are evil, an evil Principality will rule. The Book of Daniel, Chapter 10, shows that the Archangel of God had to fight with the King of Persia to bring a message to Daniel. That wasn’t a physical king, but the Principality over the area residing in the heavens over that country.

If we “plead the blood” over a geographical area, we are stating the blood as payment to claim it for the Kingdom of God. This is trying to take it out of the hands of the Principality who has been assigned to rule over that area by God. That is not our place; only God can appoint and remove those appointed to rule in the heavens. Jesus showed us our place when He was given ALL authority by His Father, as we discussed in the class/chapter Our Authority.

Furthermore, in the Old Testament, blood was sprinkled in connection with the Temple and upon the people. It was not used outside of that which was sacred to God. To apply it elsewhere is not according to God’s ways.

Pleading the Blood

How to correctly apply the blood and remain safe in a place you reside, even temporarily, was shown at a church gathering. We were directed to meet at Niagara Falls for Pentecost one particular year. The Lord told us what house to rent. We were so delighted to see our family whom we had never met face-to-face, that we forgot to take care of business.

Moving our luggage into the beautiful rooms, we decided to walk to the falls, then it was dinner time. We played a few card games, then got ready for bed. My neck began to ache as the day got later and later, yet I never stopped and asked the Holy Spirit what was going on. Several times during the day someone would ask, “Have you prayed over the house.”
Each time we replied, “We will get to that later.”

At 11 PM, we gathered in the dining room to pray over the home. A quick prayer was said, “Heavenly Father, we thank you for bringing us here. We have paid for this place to stay and ask that the blood of Jesus remove all sin from this home, the beds and even the pillows so the enemy can be removed. We also ask that you send angels to stand guard over us, to protect us tonight. In Jesus’ name, amen.” Confident that the home was now in the hands of the Lord, we sought our beds. Ashley’s shriek of alarm quickly pierced the quiet night. Figuring she had seen a spider, we took our time going to investigate.

Inside the room of two of the worshipers, the walls and ceiling were speckled with hundreds of mayflies. Walking into the room made my skin crawl and I quickly left to fetch the other elders knowing that something demonic was afoot. The other two elders of the church were unable to enter the “bug room.” One elder literally doubled over and the other was unable to cross the threshold of the room. At the time, I didn’t understand the significance. Now I do.

Little children, you are of God [you belong to Him] and have [already] defeated and overcome them [the agents of the antichrist], because He Who lives in you is greater (mightier) than he who is in the world. (1 John 4:4 AMPC)

When walking with the Lord, the enemy cannot hinder us. They could not enter the room, so they were not connected to the Lord, there was another spirit active in their life. The enemy had no such ability to hinder me, I prayed to break some of the hold of the enemy, and only then could they enter. Later, these two elders led a rebellion in the church because they had the same open door to a particular spirit.

I will not talk with you much more, for the prince (evil genius, ruler) of the world is coming. And he has no claim on Me. [He has nothing in common with Me; there is nothing in Me that belongs to him, and he has no power over Me.] (John 14:30 AMPC)

This shows us that we have to be in agreement with the enemy to be affected by him. If there is no open door, the enemy cannot stop you. If you have an open door to a spirit, then that spirit can affect you. If you are having trouble getting rid of demons, you will want to ask God what you have in common with them. What sin is giving them power in your life? If you need help finding the open door, please schedule an appointment to chat with us about it!

At the house, another brave sister fetched a vacuum to take care of the bugs, one of the group told us that she found out the house was known for having a “ghost” appear to the renters of this vacation rental property. The guest book at the front door had written accounts of those who claimed it was a “friendly ghost.” As you know, ghosts are either fallen angels, what many call demons, or evil spirits, who are the product of the fallen angels who took women as wives. Neither are “friendly” to humans: they merely pretend to be so they can bring harm to your life.

We asked the Holy Spirit what allowed this intrusion into the house. This began an hour-and-a-half crusade through the house, going from room to room, asking the Holy Spirit what allowed the enemy to remain. I will not repeat the long list of horrific sins that were revealed, but because many had to do with murder, actual witchcraft (spell casting), and demon worship we assumed that this was the reason the prayer for the blood of Jesus to cleanse the home had not been enough for the house; we thought we needed to confess that each act was a sin, renounce the sin, and confess its removal through the blood of Jesus so that the enemy could be removed. We could not have been more wrong.

Over and over again, other seers heard, “Greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world.” We continued to declare how great Jesus is. We took time to worship Jesus, our voices blending into a beautiful harmony though many of us had no natural ability to sing. Eventually, we felt that 90% of the presence of the enemy was gone. Since it was 2 AM, we took refuge in the Lord and trusted His angels to guard us through the night.

On the way to lunch the next morning, we had to do three U-turns after turning the wrong way. That was more than we had done for the last two days of driving across a half-dozen states! As I left the restaurant after lunch the next day, I asked the others, “My head was ‘fuzzy’ when I woke. It hasn’t left. It feels like much more than just being tired from the long night. How are you doing?”

One nodded, “My head has been cloudy too. Let’s pray.”

Still seated in the car, we asked the Holy Spirit what was going on. We both received, “old wineskin.” (See the class/chapter of that name) We had charged off after the enemy and tried to spiritually clean the house without consulting the Lord to see if that was what He wanted us to do or how He wanted us to do it!

That night when another elder arrived, after dinner, I was filling him and everyone else in on the details. When I got to the part about not consulting the Lord, both of them felt the enemy enter the room and stand right in the midst of us. When we repented for blindly following the traditions of man instead of asking the Lord what He wanted us to do, the Holy Spirit brought a revelation through His gifts:

  •     A seer literally gagged as if she was vomiting.
  •     Someone saw (in the spirit) someone swallowing something and then vomiting it back up.

Vomiting is “rejecting something with extreme prejudice.” There was something very wrong! It was after 11 PM again, and many of the others had retired to their rooms. We went and brought them downstairs, knowing that they had participated in something that had made the Lord unhappy. Swiftly we confessed to the others that we had led them down the wrong path. Many visions guided us in the right direction as the four elders gathered began to pray, asking the Holy Spirit for revelation about where we had gone wrong:

  •     Why had the enemy remained last night?
  •     Why was it still in the middle of our meeting?

As we should have done the night before, we began to ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom. We had used a typical prayer based on a simple fact we had been taught, “When you pay for something, it is yours and you have legal rights over it.” However, is this statement true?

When you buy something, like a house, it is legally yours. You own it and can make changes to it physically. If you owned a house, would you want a renter putting in new carpet or painting the walls any color they wanted? When you pay rent for a place on an airplane, a car, or a house, you cannot physically change it, it is not your property. You are paying for temporary use of it.

If you cannot make physical changes to something, you cannot make spiritual changes!
It is abusing the authority Jesus grants us if we try to redeem something with His blood that we do not own. Renting is not the same as owning. Misapplying the blood may allow the enemy to hinder your authority. Though you cannot remove the sin from what you are renting, there are other ways the Lord provides protection.

 Binding the Enemy

Truly I tell you, whatever you forbid and declare to be improper and unlawful on Earth must be what is already forbidden in Heaven, and whatever you permit and declare proper and lawful on Earth must be what is already permitted in Heaven.  (Matthew 18:18 AMPC)

The Amplified Classic Version shows the proper tense of the phrases in this scripture. We can only bind what we know has already been bound in Heaven. If you cannot remove the sin giving the enemy access, there is another course of action. Jesus demonstrated this with His disciples:

The seventy returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name! And He said to them, I saw Satan falling like a lightning [flash] from Heaven. Behold! I have given you authority and power to trample upon serpents and scorpions, and [physical and mental strength and ability] over all the power that the enemy [possesses]; and nothing shall in any way harm you. (Luke 10:17-19 AMPC)

When you are walking with the Lord, He can give you authority over the enemy. In some cases, it may not be a permanent removal but a temporary “binding,” for victory so that His will can be accomplished. To clear the way for the coming of the Lord, the followers of Jesus were sent out with words of His coming. They were given authority over the enemy to show that they were speaking with the authority of God. When Jesus rose, He received the fullness of authority:

Jesus approached and, breaking the silence, said to them, All authority (all power of rule) in Heaven and on Earth has been given to Me. (Matthew 28:18 AMPC)

Jesus has all authority, we have whatever He gives us. This is why we kept hearing, “Greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world.” We were focusing on the power of the enemy, but Jesus has overcome the enemy. As long as we focus on Jesus, we have nothing to fear. When we tried to lead the charge against the enemy, we stepped away from His protection and were acting apart from Him.

When the servant of the man of God rose early and went out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was around the city. Elisha’s servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?”

[Elisha] answered, “Fear not; for those with us are more than those with them.”

Then Elisha prayed, “Lord, I pray You, open his eyes that he may see.” And the Lord opened the young man’s eyes, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha. (2 Kings 6:15-17 AMPC)

Elisha walked boldly in the midst of the enemy because he knew the army of God was with them. The prophet didn’t attack the enemy, he listened to God and did what He told him to do. If we are walking with the Lord, the Son of God who has all authority, we should rest assured that He is greater and has overcome the world (John 16:33). We can be in the middle of the enemy, in a haunted house, and the power of God will still flow and His will shall still be done!

When we are resting inside the Lord, His authority will automatically overpower the enemy as we act under His direction. Though a judgment has been rendered in favor of the enemy, they are unable to enforce it because Someone greater is present. When the disciples were sent out, we see this principle in action:

Whatever house you enter, first say, “Peace be to this household! [Freedom from all the distresses that result from sin be with this family].” And if anyone [worthy] of peace and blessedness is there, the peace and blessedness you wish shall come upon him; but if not, it shall come back to you. (Luke 10:5-6 AMPC)

You must be “worthy of peace,” which means in right standing with God. If you are intentionally and repeatedly sinning, you will not receive the peace that comes from being free of the effects of sin. The freedom from sin is a type of binding and loosing that is temporary.

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatever a man sows, that shall he also reap. For he that sows to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that sows to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. (Galatians 6:7-8 AKJV)

If we sow to the flesh, or worse, to sin, then we will not receive protection. We had gone into the house and acted in the flesh, doing what we assumed was our right to do. We did not consult the Holy Spirit or the Lord. As a result, the peace of the Lord did not come. Instead, the enemy was able to lead us into a merry chase!

Our prayer should have been something like this, “Jesus, you are our Lord, our God, and our King. Thank you for bringing us here. All authority is Yours. Greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world. Let your peace rest upon this house and watch over us while we are here.” A few of us may have added a prayer as they slept for the night, “Heavenly Father, please send Your angels to stand guard around us to protect us in spirit, mind, and body.”

It is that simple, if you do not own the place in which you are staying you cannot plead the blood over it. If you are renting out a place you do own, you should always ask the Lord if this is the person you should rent it to. Then, when they are staying there, pray, “Lord, I wash my hands of what takes place in this area for I am not in control of their actions. Let any sin remain on the people alone.”

Bloodlines

A “bloodline” is a barrier between us and the enemy. It is simply asking the blood of Jesus to be a barrier between you and the enemy. You should not do this lightly because His blood is so very precious.
In Egypt, Moses declared that God was sending an angel of death to take the life of the firstborn sons. (Exodus 11) The Israelites had to do exactly what God said to do for the blood of the lamb to be effective and keep out the angel of death so their sons would be spared. Jesus is the eternal Lamb of God. His blood can be used in much the same way. It can act as a barrier between objects and/or properties.
You must be willing to obey the Lord for a bloodline to be effective, just as Israel had to obey God and place the blood where He told them to. You cannot place it between yourself and a sinful or evil object you don’t really want to get rid of. For example, if there is a Buddha statue handed down for the last three generations in your family, you cannot place a bloodline around it to keep it. That statue is an idol of another god and Jesus expects you to be devoted and holy unto Him only. You must remove that statue.

And to Jesus, the Mediator (Go-between, Agent) of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood which speaks [of mercy], a better and nobler and more gracious message than the blood of Abel [which cried out for vengeance].
(Hebrews 12:24 AMPC)

The blood of Jesus cries out for mercy from the enemy, but God will not be mocked. You must be willing to remove the sin to receive mercy. If an object you do not own is the issue, then, the blood of Jesus may be used to receive mercy.  You can ask that the blood of Jesus be a barrier between that object and your household. Find out more about cursed objects in the Persistent Attacks and Sickness chapter, but please remember, you can only use a bloodline under the direction of the Lord, and you must be willing to follow His instructions for it to be effective.

Destroying Curses
in the Courts of Heaven

Many people think of boot camp as a place you train for combat. Any veteran will tell you that basic training is about three things:

  • Knowing what weapons are available
  • Learning how to use those weapons
  • Receiving orders and following them
Believer’s Boot Camp series is a collection of books which teach us how to hear more clearly from God with the goal to ready ourselves for a face-to-face meeting with our Lord, Jesus. The series reveals the “weapons and tools” God has given us and how to use them, so we can bring God’s kingdom to Earth. Each book in the series focuses on a single topic to clearly define one tool or weapon from our Heavenly Father.

The series uses the Word of God to reveal all that He has given us through Jesus. The Bible is our instruction manual and the Holy Spirit is our guide to understanding it.

Why Doesn't God Speak to Me?

Believers’ Boot Camp, Volume 1

Eager hearts cry out, hoping for a single word to confirm that He hears us. Yet, many times the only sound is silence. Over the years I have heard several reasons why God speaks to some and not to others. One night, as I tossed and turned, I brought each of these reasons before the Lord, stating why each of them did not line up with who I thought He was.

Words rose from my soul, pleading for Him to reveal why He has remained silent when a single word from Him would mean so much to so many. For the next few hours, God used things I learned about years ago and things I had just discovered to show why He talks to some and why He doesn’t, and in demonstrative ways.

In His grace, He also showed me how people could hear more from Him. Basic instructions on how to hear more from God and how to be led by Him are included in this book. Thank you for taking time to consider the answers I received and share with you now.

Keys to Authority for Every Believer

Believers’ Boot Camp, Volume 2

There is untapped power that is easy for every Christian to access in the form of authority. The keys to this authority will unlock weapons we can use to free ourselves from the attacks of the enemy. We must be intimately aware of the bounds and limitations of our weapon if they are to be used effectively.

Find out about your authority:
  • Why you need it.
  • Where it comes from.
  • What you can do with it.
  • How to get more.

Destroying Curses in the Courts of Heaven

Believers’ Boot Camp, Volume 3

Our rights to appear in the Courts of Heaven have been greatly undervalued. The missing key to our authority is here. Jesus has provided the access and the Bible shows us the court procedures. When we learn to operate in our rightful place as children of the Most High, the enemy will be defeated and we will see the victory we have prayed for.

The death of Jesus freed us from the curse of the law. However, we must declare this freedom just as we must make a declaration for our salvation.

  • Can curses be passed to our children?
  • What are signs of a curse?
  • How do you get rid of one?

Every answer is backed by scripture. Come and find out how easy it is to be free!

Roadmap to Heaven

Believers’ Boot Camp, Volume 4

As I meditated and sought the Lord, a vision overcame me. A “Roadmap to Heaven” was deposited into my soul. We are entering a season of unparalleled access to Heaven. Jesus is calling all who are His to visit with Him in the Secret Place of the Most High.
  • What is the Secret Place?
  • How do we enter?
  • What will we find there?
The Bible holds the answers, the mystery has been revealed. As you use the map given in this book to journey to the Secret Place, discover your destiny and find the gifts the Holy Spirit will bring along the way.
